Full Job Description

As a key team member, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting a wide range of complex council-wide systems.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Help maintain our data centre.

  • Maintaining peak performance across our IT systems, so staff and council members have fast and dependable access.

  • Implementing cutting-edge technologies to support evolving business needs.

  • Troubleshooting complex issues and keeping our users informed throughout the process.

  • Collaborating with internal and external teams to design and deliver effective technical solutions., Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.

    You're an expert in 2 or more IT specialist disciplines (see full list below).

  • You have a strong understanding of the remaining disciplines and a willingness to learn more.

  • You possess excellent problem-solving skills and can identify solutions under pressure.

  • You enjoy working collaboratively and mentoring others to build a strong IT team.

  • Microsoft/Email Systems (Exchange, Teams, etc.)

  • Security (Anti-Virus, Firewalls, etc.)

  • Data Centres (Management, Hardware, Cabling, etc.)


  • It would be beneficial to have any experience of the following:

  • Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure

  • Citrix XenApp/WEM technologies

  • Microsoft 365 and Azure

  • Hypervisor technology and desktop virtualization

  • Data centre management and hardware installation

    This role is suitable as a job share opportunity.

    The postholder will have access to secure government sites or email. In order to use these systems, the Cabinet Office requires the HR Team to carry out Baseline Personnel Standard Security (BPSS) checks.

    As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
