Full Job Description

This is a one year fixed term post from August 2024 based in Cardiology at the Princess of Wales Hospital (POWH), and supporting General Internal Medicine (GIM).
The role will cover all aspects of acute cardiac and medical services together with scheduled Cardiology care working at middle doctor grade. The post includes on call duties within the GIM middle tier rota.
Experience of working in the UK at middle grade level would be expected, and special interests, which complement existing services, will be supported.
There will be opportunity to develop experience in cardiac diagnostics and outpatient clinics.

Middle tier doctor engaged in unscheduled care for Cardiology and GIM including out of hours residency, and engaged in scheduled care for Cardiology.
There are 21 Cardiology/GIM beds on a single ward in the Princess of Wales Hospital (including 9 level 2 monitored Acute Cardiac Care Unit beds). The Cardiologists work as a single clinical team and assume the management of all patients in these beds and in addition provide daily 7-day support to the Acute Medical take and provide cardiology advice for in-patients on other wards.
Within cardiology at POWH there are 6 Consultants and 1 associate specialist responsible for the provision of secondary and some tertiary cardiac services. Some services, are also provided at Maesteg Community Hospital and Neath Port Talbot Hospital.
The Cardiologists are supported by two Speciality Trainees, one Senior Clinical Fellow, one Internal Medicine Trainee, one General Practice Specialty Trainee, one Foundation Trainee level 2 and one Foundation Trainee level 1. There are also three Cardiac Advanced Nurse Practitioners, three Heart Failure Clinical Nurse Specialists and two Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinical Nurse Specialists. This post will enable this successful team-based approach to continue and develop.
The post includes on call duties within the GIM middle tier rota.
