Full Job Description

The Publicist role is a key position in the team, leading on selected activity and supporting PR Managers/PR Leads on large scale campaigns. Your role will be instrumental in creating bold and unique campaigns for Sky Original theatrical releases and on-platform launches, as well as major blockbuster platform releases such as Barbie and Migration. This is an opportunity to showcase your creativity and enthusiasm for the world of film.

What you'll do:

  • Work on priority PR campaigns for key entertainment programming including original and acquired content, largely focused on Sky Cinema programming, potentially flexing onto other genres as needed,

  • Work as part of a team on the delivery of priority campaigns managing individual aspects of an overall campaign (e.g. media relations, junkets, press events, festivals or creative executions) and have sole responsibility for publicising smaller titles,

  • Proactive pitching to media to place interviews, stories, images and clips around campaigns, with a particular focus on digital-first thinking,

  • Nurture and build on an already strong list of contacts across a broad range of media outlets - traditional, digital and social first - including film, entertainment and other media to identify PR opportunities,

  • Event management including media days, press events etc.

  • Write press releases and other press materials as needed to the highest standard, researching and fact checking information as required,

  • Help to generate creative ideas which help promote Sky's content,

  • Manage media interviews, creating schedules and chaperoning press and talent as required. Strong talent handling skills are essential,

  • Provide PR advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and manage internal relationships and approvals,

  • Ensure that press updates are delivered to the wider business and key stakeholders in a timely fashion,

  • Work with a range of key stakeholders across the business including marketing and social media teams and commissioning,

  • Liaise with external stakeholders including other global distributors, international talent reps, sales agents and production companies,

  • Manage an Assistant Publicist, growing and nurturing their role in the team as well as running PDP processes and having development conversations,

  • Track budgets, raising POs and managing invoices.

    Highly motivated individual with a proven passion and flair for PR and the media, as well as an undeniable passion for film,

  • Strong understanding of PR (+3 years in field) and experience of working on PR campaigns,

  • Excellent personal and written communication skills and a passion for great creative and editorial writing,

  • A confident individual with good instincts, not afraid to express ideas and join in the conversation,

  • Extensive experience pitching to journalists, an instinct for what makes a story and building and maintaining key relationships with an excellent network of print, broadcast and online contacts, with a focus on UK film outlets and trades,

  • Strong understanding of print, broadcast, online and social media, and an understanding of the changing media landscape, with a focus on digital media,

  • Experience in implementing effective PR campaigns and the ability to take initiative and work under pressure in a busy and fast paced environment - excellent planning skills with the ability to prioritise and work across multiple projects,

  • Collaboration with all marcomms functions - ability to be good team player. An understanding of social media and influencer areas is ideal, but not essential,

  • Ability to act with autonomy, seeking solutions to problems and referring upwards for guidance or to gain agreement on a recommendation,

  • Ability to communicate in a proactive and positive manner, building effective relationships both internally and externally,

  • Be an advocate for the whole team and the fantastic work we do,

  • Be a role model for other publicists and assistant publicists,

  • Actively contribute to creating an environment that promotes collaboration, inclusivity and innovation,

  • Experience working with celebrity talent,

  • Ideally some experience of crisis management, or an understanding of the role of PR within issues management,
