Full Job Description

In order to support our growing business we have an exciting opening for a Project Engineer to be part of our Engineering team in the south of England working on one of our client based contracts and or other contracts assigned.,

  • Overarching Role Of Supporting Project Engineer.

  • To support our clients communications infrastructure across both HV Distribution & Transmission networks.

  • A key role, taking the lead in providing professional expertise on day to day management of the clients strategic network and in the handover of services from our Field engineering teams.

  • Required to assist in the project delivery of telecoms network installations working closely with the Program Managers & Design Engineers supporting projects from inception to end of job handover.

  • Being the key link in the chain for all assigned teams supporting the onsite delivery of our build projects.


  • What will your key responsibilities be?
  • Support first line installation teams carrying out infrastructure, from simple to complex network builds and have good background knowledge of working within an HV environment.

  • Quality check all documentation related to the clients build requirements, progress, report and close issues to the clients and our own internal SLA's using the correct processes and systems.

  • Revise and update technical documentation and asset registers accordingly.

  • Perform risk assessments on site and be able to follow method statements, supporting on site teams.

  • Respond quickly and effectively to requests from 3rd parties and internal teams.

  • Coach and buddy of the existing team and new team members to ensure knowledge sharing.

  • Support escalation with our client and suppliers as appropriate.

  • Assist with driving to full completion small & large scale projects for all related installations upgrades commissioning/decommissioning within the clients premises and or various locations

  • Complete network reports and analysis when required.

  • Work to internal & client billing milestones critical to project completions, making sure that reporting of and end of job reports are fed back to the client in a timely manner meeting the clients expectations and making sure that any SLA agreements are being met.

  • Working alongside our Field Engineering teams on various installation and maintenance projects, providing them with programs and safe systems of work and assure delivery in order to achieve the benefits expected by both client and the company.

  • Be able to manage risk and ensuring all quality and health & safety requirements are met, work closely with the internal H&S teams, making sure we meet all our safety standards.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, resolve, and at times liaise with all parties including our immediate client & supporting 3rd parties and with our Magdalene internal technical groups.

  • Ability to effectively operate and integrate into a client environment showing strong interpersonal skills professionalism with a high degree of enthusiasm.

  • Assist with and progress purchasing of equipment related to client specific projects and lease with the Project Managements team prior to project delivery, attending kick off meetings as and when required., Understanding of the deployment and testing of copper xDSL products including xDSL services via BT WBMC and SHDSL over copper "pilot" cables

  • Understanding of deployment and testing of 3rd party "leased line" products including Openreach Ethernet Access Direct and Optical Spectrum Access

  • Understanding of Layer 2 & Layer 3 networking including Cisco Aggregation Services Router\Switches and Cisco Industrial Ethernet and Connected Grid products.

  • Access products including Virtual Access IoT & Westermo products

  • Satellite services - E.g. BGAN and T-SAT services

  • Private mobile radio - E.g. Simoco XFin trunked radio systems

  • Synchronisation networks including synchronisation elements (frequency, NTP and PTP) configuration and maintenance

  • MPLS network - Cisco

  • Mobile data - Private APN services with mobile carriers

  • RADIUS - Private systems to authenticate network elements

  • LVAC

  • Understanding of AV/DC power autonomy

  • Voice Systems

  • Security systems - Various vendors firewalls and intrusion detection systems

  • DCN Management infrastructure

    A strong set of IT skills which would include Microsoft products, basic DOS commands, VT software

  • Ability and willingness to work on and gain understanding of new equipment and technologies

  • Vibrant personalities who adapt well to a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent organisational skills, verbal and written communication skills, conscientious, flexible, and ability to forecast future demand with the ability to respond and act promptly on all tasks delivered

  • Analytical skills to assist in fault resolution

  • Understanding of and in a support function, Installation in electrical substation environment including "hot site" mitigation and mitigation of Rise of Earth potential risk.

  • Knowledge of both AC/DC systems as a support function.

  • Understanding of Fibre - splicing, termination and testing of a range of fibre types including Optical Ground Wire cannisters, ground deployed fibre, 3rd- party fibre, fibre characteristics and connectorisation, conversant in use of fibre test equipment - i.e. EXFO

  • Knowledge of SDH/PDH technology including DNWP Connection Master SDH\PDH multiplexers,

  • Have an understanding to support configuration and testing of sub-rate services including V & X data, Voice Frequency and Optical Tele protection including conversant in use of test equipment.

  • Installation standards and installation of telecoms racks, installation and commissioning of DC power supply systems and batteries.

  • Site infrastructure including an understanding of good earthing practice, cable management and distribution frames.

  • Microwave radio - E.g. point to point SIAE Electronica ALC+, conversant with good installation practice., HNC/HND in Electronics or Engineering

  • Full clean driving license

  • IOSH

  • CSCS

  • EUSR
