Full Job Description

Reporting the Chief Commercial Officer, we are looking to appoint the key role of Fuel Supply Manager for our site in Leicestershire. This position is principally concerned with managing the fuel supply inputs into the new Energy from Waste (EFW) facility at Newhurst.

The plant will support the aims of the circular economy and enable the UK to achieve national self-sufficiency in managing waste and support the achievement of the UK's landfill diversion targets.

Working closely with Encyclis and our joint venture partner Biffa, the successful candidate will play a key part in the ongoing commercial success of the facility.
Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Management and co-ordination of Newhurst ERF Ltd's day to day obligations and responsibilities under the Fuel Supply Agreements.

  • Undertake the procurement, negotiation and management of fuel supply contracts including spot tonnage.

  • Management of deliveries following the O&M delivery schedule.

  • Management of diversions during downtime and where fuel has been deemed unacceptable.

  • Monitoring of sampling regime, including supplier site visits, inspections and audits.

  • Contract management of all fuel supply contracts including the management and oversight of price escalations and put-or-pay reconciliations.

  • Management of all supplier contract relationships.

  • Preparation of Environment Agency declarations with both internal and external customers.

  • Support and prepare tender documentation.

  • Monthly, quarterly and annual financial reviews, forecasts and reconciliation.

  • Work closely with other departments within Encyclis and Biffa (e.g H&S, legal, finance etc) and and outside regulatory bodies as required to ensure contract compliance.


  • Working with operational colleagues on waste acceptance, non-conforming waste, waste quality and data management.

  • Support the General Manager to complete other duties to ensure compliance of the Joint Venture, for example attending the local liaison group meetings.

  • Ad hoc project work in relation to fuel quality improvement, assessment alternative waste markets and the compliance and operational requirements to realise opportunities.

    Good knowledge of Safety Rules and maintaining a safety-first culture.

  • Excellent commercial awareness and organisational skills.

  • Proactive approach to stakeholder management.

  • Good attention to detail.

  • Understanding the priorities necessary for delivering on annual Goals / Initiatives / Strategy - Determine revisions as required.

  • Integration into Business, Engineering, Projects and Supply Chain Leadership teams and become a key partner.

  • Development of a culture of improved accountability.


  • Qualifications:

    Essential:
  • Degree level or equivalent.

  • Significant experience in a contract management role within the waste sector, including local authorities, as well as logistics co-ordination.

  • Experience managing waste quality sampling.

  • Strong business acumen that highlights proactive thinking with detail-oriented and creative problem-solving approach.

  • Good experience of contract management and familiarisation with fuel supply contracts.


  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with partners, stakeholders and government officials.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute in an operating business (goal-oriented mindset).

  • Understanding of the UK waste market and policies.

  • The ability to use soft influence and indirect leadership.


  • Desirable:
  • Experience working in a joint venture structure.

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
