About the Role

  • £41,870 - £49,114 + Car or Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits

  • Based at Severnside Energy Recovery Centre, Bristol


  • What will I be Doing?
  • To manage and drive continuous improvement across all operational aspects of the Distribution related activities, improving and optimising performance, providing a best in class customer experience.

  • Utilising systems, data and best practice as well as regular 'on the ground' observations across the UK to identify opportunities to deliver Distribution and TMS related projects/initiatives whilst acting as a bridge between Operations, Hauliers, Customers, Procurement and the Distribution team.

  • To coordinate and plan project activities within the distribution/operations teams, related to national bulk haulage, working with other project stakeholders to deliver agreed changes to ways of working

  • Manage and deliver improvement projects for failed loads, wasted journeys, steady order placement, auction process, forecast ordering, payload optimisation, automated reporting, standardised ways of working, etc

  • To research, regularly travelling to sites/customers across the UK to identify and implement agreed changes and improvements to the distribution related systems and processes

  • To advise/train and assist other stakeholders in relation to Distribution systems and processes

  • To engage with other stakeholders (vendors and customers in the main) to promote the benefits of the TMS software

  • To continuously improve the Distribution Planner process and manage the roll out of improvements with each planner as and when changes are introduced.

  • Provide national cover for the Distribution Planners in times of absence ensuring regular shadowing/update meetings take place

  • To manage and control the performance metric processes behind improvement and cost saving initiatives (SPOT taskforce equivelants, etc)

  • Extract accurate data from TMS, analyse and utilise to build and circulate performance reporting

  • Interface with Distribution Ops managers, Systems manager, RMs and PMs to determine any system implementation or amendments, developing and building effective job management tools

  • Arrange and establish regular meetings with operational and haulage partners to discuss KPI reporting on site and haulage performance to support the business in driving change

    Deep understanding of project management/delivery (time/cost/resource management) incl. system implementation, standardised practice and support

  • A good understanding of the waste industry

  • An excellent knowledge of distribution/logistics operations, HGV tractor and trailer configurations, fuel types, coupling heights, trailer heights, HGV running costs, etc

  • Financial awareness

  • Excellent knowledge of MS office, particularly Excel/pivot tables

  • Lean principles/Six sigma/5S workplace organisation methodology

  • Transport operators CPC

  • Value stream mapping/Flow charting
