Full Job Description

The Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford is seeking to recruit a Data Assistant. As part of an inclusive, friendly, and supportive Data team, the successful applicant will support the work of the team by processing data changes and returns, as well as undertaking small projects. You will liaise with church officers, parishes, managers, and staff to ensure data is submitted in timely fashions. You will work on the National Church Institutions People System and Clergy Register ensuring records are well maintained.

  • Numerate and literate, and educated to GCSE standard or equivalent (including C or above in Maths and English)

  • Experience of using Microsoft Excel (or equivalent type of programme) for storing, maintaining, and developing data and spreadsheets

  • Experience in a data role or experience with using spreadsheets and data in administration/business support type of role

  • A meticulous eye for detail when handling data

    The Diocese of Chelmsford is the Church of England in East London and Essex. The Diocese is vibrant and growing with our 463 parishes and 139 schools across Essex, the unitary authorities of Southend and Thurrock, and five East London Boroughs serving a population of around 3 million and rising. We have nearly 600 churches, which are served by around 500 clergy.

    Working hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) with the opportunity for hybrid working and flexible working. Part-time working may be considered for an exceptional candidate (with a minimum of 21 hours per week)


  • This post is offered on a 12-month fixed term contract

    Salary: £23,000 to £24,500 per annum

    Benefits: We offer a range of benefits including hybrid and flexible working, 11% non-contributory pension scheme, 25 days holiday (15 days pro rata) rising to 29 (17.5 days pro rata) after five years' service.
