Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved with the implementation of the new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in Biochemistry, Specialist Testing, Immunology and Toxicology across all sites at UHB. The implementation includes working with the laboratory IT team for a 18 month fixed term full time post working between 08:00- 20:00 and potentially weekends when required to fully test all the instrumentation.

The department provides a 24/7 diagnostic and monitoring service for routine and urgent investigations. The Clinical Chemistry department has undergone an automation equipment refresh. Equipment includes Abbott Alinity c and i series analysers on all sites both BHH and QEHB have a fully tracked solution. Specialist Chemistry, Immunology and Toxicology provides a wide range of services to the Trust as well as other Hospital Trusts.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy, friendly team and support our department. IT experience/ qualification would be advantageous as well as BMS experience. We are UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 standards and MHRA approved., This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of working on the implementation of a new Laboratory Information System in a fast-paced department that is continually growing and to expand and develop your existing knowledge and skills while contributing to an integral part of the laboratory.

You must have a BSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) with HCPC registration, post registration specialist portfolio and experience of working in a chemistry laboratory. IT experience/ qualification would be advantageous. This is not a developmental position.

The successful candidate will take a pragmatic, flexible and enthusiastic approach to their daily workloads which will include but is not limited to; management of their own workload, mentoring and training of staff on the new LIMS, analyser troubleshooting and other day to day tasks required to be performed. Other IT related duties will also be carried out under supervision of the pathology IT team to move the department forward.

The candidate must have excellent attention to detail, able to clearly communicate any issues identified and troubleshoot if possible and ideally have knowledge of the IT host communication pathways involved within the chemistry department.
