Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and competent CDM Principal Designer at Associate level with experience in both principal designer duties on multi-disciplinary projects and construction stage health and safety support to our key UK clients across a wide range of sectors in United Kingdom.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious person with drive, enthusiasm and a good knowledge of design and construction to join a global award winning multi-disciplinary design practice.

You will support the Group CDM Director in managing the CDM PD team with provision of competent advice and guidance across a range of construction & design health and safety matters to colleagues and clients.

You will provide CDM PD guidance and advice to internal BDP multi-disciplinary design teams and Clients from the outset of the design and pre-construction stages of a wide range of projects across all sectors to ensure compliance with statutory duties under CDM Regulations 2015.

You will be expected to deliver excellence, drive quality and add value in all tasks, undertaking and deliverable within the role scope. You will support in-house and external design teams in the implementation of safety in design and design risk management strategies.

Your role will include co-ordinating design team meetings, assisting clients in the development of H&S arrangements/Project Briefs, providing workshops/seminars on client duties, assisting and reviewing design risk assessments, attendance and chairing design team meetings, reviewing relevant health and safety files, ensuring suitable arrangements for the coordination of health and safety measures during planning and preparation of the Construction Phase, providing guidance and support for other Duty Holders.

You will collaborate with other design disciplines, plan, manage and co-ordinate health and safety during the pre-construction stage. Share CDM knowledge across all professions, develop and deliver CDM training programmes, CDM workshops and CPD events for designers in the London studio and across other BDP UK studios.

You will be able to work concurrently on a portfolio of projects using excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate a collaborative team-working style and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Ideally you will hold a NEBOSH General Certificate /Construction qualification and Design/ construction qualification and experience.

You must be a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) and Certified Member of APS (CMaPS).

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive years of experience within a similar position, demonstrating a strong construction background, design knowledge and familiarity with construction health and safety;

  • ability to act as a line manager and CDM technical leader.

  • a thorough working knowledge and experience of the CDM 2015 Regulations; other health & safety regulations and a good knowledge of design and construction related activities and designers' duties gained from broad experience across a range of industry sectors.

  • strong communication (both written and verbal) skills and an interpersonal style that enables you to excel in a direct client facing role.

  • the drive and ambition needed to develop the business, alongside loyalty and a willingness to actively contribute to the growth of the team

  • ability to compile and write reports
